Rainier Therapeutic Riding

Rider and Volunteer Testimonials

I have struggled with PTSD, anxiety and panic attacks for 10 years. I have not had a great understanding of what they were or what was going on with me during those 10 years. I stumbled upon Rainier Therapeutic Riding last year almost by accident and began riding in the program in January. I have had more progress in dealing with my PTSD, Anxiety and Panic Attacks in the 6 months I have been riding here than I have in 10 years. I am very grateful that God allowed me to stumble upon this program so that I could begin the healing process that I so desperately needed for 10 years. I look forward to my time with my horse each week and I crave the company of Elisia, Erin and all of the other instructors and volunteers each week. Getting to know some of the other riders and realizing that I am not the only one dealing with this and that we are all struggling the same really helps. Thank You for all that this program is doing and will do for me in the future. I can never repay you for the life you have given back to me.

RTR has been such a blessing in my life over the last several months. Working with my horse really brings out the best in me. For those few hours a week, it doesn't matter what else is going on in my life because I know that going there, I am going to feel good, relaxed and welcome by everyone there. I wish this type of program was available to me in 2007-08 when I was severely struggling with PTSD. It could have really helped me prevent some bad behavior and mistakes that have cost me dearly in the past. I am greatful that now, this program is one more tool I can use to combat the effects of my PTSD and Anxiety disorder in the long-run. Thank you very much RTR!!!

Today Matt shared with me that he is really happy to be a part of the Rainier Therapeutic Riding. This is a positive change in his life, one that fills me with joy. He has been struggling terribly over the past four years and has not been able to find anything that brings him happiness. It is so wonderful to know that has purpose and hope.

I can't thank you enough for all that you and your staff are doing to help vets like my son. Thank you so much.

With gratitude,

Janice O'Reilly

If there is a better way to spend a Monday, I don't know what it is.  Today was one of the most relaxing days I have had in a long time. Thank you to all the people that make this happen.  -Matt

"When I first heard about RTR, I was intimidated. After hearing the volunteers speak at a town hall meeting I took a chance and signed up. I have no regrets. The volunteers were so proffessional and they are the heart and soul of the program. They also always feed us tasty food. The confidence I gained by working with my horse was remarkable. He helped with my anxiety and depression. I never would have guessed it, but it is really therapeutic. I will continue to ride after I separate from the military. RTR is the best!
My wife is now in class #2 with your organization. I'm eternally grateful for this program, as it has and still is helping my wife to find a purpose and to look forward to something which brings her joy. She's a big fan of Cisco and with this bonding, she's gained a sense of accomplishment. I feel that thank you, isn't enough, yet hope it'll do.

There are so many days I never want to leave my house, but I can't let my horse down and this draws me outside of myself. I was so upset with a event in my life and all I could do is hug and brush and talk to my horse. It was the best therapy a person could ever ask for in their life! He understood my tears and nuzzled me back, no talking needed just strength given to me by him when I really needed it in my life. I love this program so much and thank God daily for the opportunity to be in this program!

I just wanted to stop by and express how much you guys have done for me... I came into this project not knowing really what to expect. I never thought it would help me this much.

I came into it still paralyzed from the knee down on my right leg, walking on a cane with severe PTSD and anxiety from my deployment. And now after just the past 9 weeks of working with the horses and volunteering at the stables I am now much happier emotionally, walking without a cane and as of last week I am able to lift my leg 45 degrees backwards...

You guys are so incredibly amazing. Each and every one of you. Thank you so much for starting this program. There are no words to describe how grateful I am of you guys and your hard work and dedication to helping us wounded soldiers.  - Dean Baker

Thank you so much for including Petru and I in this wonderful experience.  We had a good time raising money for RTR and learned lots about horsemanship. I will never be able to thank you enough...   - Tina
